BioGaer
A material in harmony with nature 
BioGaer material is a product range of patented, Bio-materials made from plant- based ingredients and manufactured in the UK. Designed to encourage micro-organisms to feed and thrive that will bio-degrade the products produced; this happens either in the outdoor environment at moist ambient temperatures, industrial composting facilities or most preferably the home composting environment, however BioGaer material remains stable when dry and in-doors, just like cardboard and paper products.

Products produced from BioGaer material will de-compose in a matter of months and also contribute to the decomposition of other items in the compost by encouraging the micro-organisms to feed, multiply and thrive.

Grades are food contact compliant and all are processed on conventional machinery and equipment, such as Injection moulding, profile extrusion, cast films, thermoforming lines machinery and tooling without any concerns.

BioGaer material is designed for single use, thin wall applications and are ideal for items that are incorrectly disposed on a daily basis or where the vendors are not able or willing (financial implications) to retrieve, clean, store or recycle items.
Thicker walled items will take a longer period of time to decompose, breaking up these parts into smaller pieces will speed up the natural decomposition process.

    Process-ability:

    BioGaer can be processed on conventional equipment and machinery. The material is stable in its molten state, providing the operator balances screw speed, back pressure and process temperatures to control melt temperature. 

    Mold flow is dependent on the melt temperature.

    Suitable for hot runners.

  • Approvals

    BioGaer material has been independently verified to three globally accredited test specifications: 

    • EN 13432 (2000)
    • ASTM D6400 (2012)
    • ISO 17088 (2012).

  • Current Test Results

    Thin Wall:

    Numerous test specimens with a thickness of 0.5mm were quantitatively evaluated during 12 weeks of aerobic soil composting and after 12 weeks not a single test specimen could be retrieved from the different fractions, resulting in a disintegration percentage of 100%.
